MIT '07 Pi Reunion - Friday

Jeff and I flew to Las Vegas on Friday afternoon for his Pi reunion. We got into Vegas at about 7pm, and headed to Ceasar's Palace, where we were staying. Our room was on the 21st floor, and the view was great.

Once we were checked in, we went to meet up with our friends, who were having a little party in their room. It was really fun to see everyone - it's been years since we've seen some of them.

We had dinner at 10pm at Mesa. Mesa is Bobby Flay's restaurant, and specializes in grilled foods. Most restaurants provide bread for the table, and usually I don't mention it, but the jalapeño and asiago bread was incredible - lucky that other people liked it too, and ate it quickly, or I'm sure I would have filled up on that. Jeff and I shared the Tiger Shrimp and Roasted Garlic Corn Tamale as an appetizer - very tasty! For my main dish, I had the New Mexican Spice Rubbed Pork Tenderloin. The pork tenderloin was great - really tender and pretty spicy (which I like). It was one of those dishes that you can't stop eating, even though you're way past full. Jeff had the 22 oz. Bone In Chipotle Glazed Rib-Eye. The steak was massive, but also really, really good. We don't have steak all that often, but this was the place to get it.

One of Jeff's best friends, John Gardner, who we really don't get to see often (we keep just missing each other - we've stayed at his place in San Francisco while he was away, and he's been to DC while we're out of town!) was leaving on a 6am flight on Saturday morning to go to a friend's wedding. Jeff and I decided to stay up with John until he needed to head to the airport.

By chance, Jeff's roommates from Barcelona - Victor and Alberto - as well as some of their friends that we met that summer, like Andreu, were also in Las Vegas this weekend. Victor has been living in San Francisco for the last year or so, and all of his friends had come to visit him, which is why they were all in town - the trip to Las Vegas was part of their visit. So after dinner, we headed to the Seahorse bar in Ceasar's Palace to meet up with them for a drink.

Eventually, we decided to go for a walk. We went through Ceasar's Palace, Bellagio, Aria, and Crystals in City Center before turning around and heading back.

Both Jeff and John were barely able to keep their eyes open by the time they got back to Ceasar's. I think that might be the latest I've ever seen Jeff stay up (by the time we went to bed, it was after 7am Eastern time).
